The Aberdeen Proving Grounds, also known as the APG, is one of the major military bases in the American defense force. Recently, Aberdeen military location has become very popular as the government has embarked on a new program called BRAC that has seen various other small military bases close down. Many men and women have been relocating to Aberdeen as a result. This area is situated in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and was established in 1917 due to the need for a munitions testing base.

Relocation to Maryland has increased the need for homes and the Aberdeen real estate market has many homes for sale in all price ranges. Aberdeen Proving Grounds were originally a fertile farming area that many did not want to part with but it was eventually passed by an act of Congress.

At the end of the 1980’s there were over 14 million people working at the APG with many people relocating to Maryland to work. In the light of the BRAC, or Base Realignment and Closure, there has been a huge increase in the amount of military personnel being relocated to Aberdeen and this has seen an increase in the demand for houses. This also means that the infrastructure of roads, water and sewage as well as shopping centers and other facilities will need to keep up with the high demand.

When relocating to Aberdeen for any reason, but especially because of the BRAC structure that has come in place, you will find that there are all the facilities that you will need for your entire family. There are great elementary and high schools as well as colleges. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied including most sports and entertainment. The reason that the government is focusing their attention on cutting down smaller military bases and forcing Maryland military relocation, is to modernize the military and get it away from the Cold War structure and into a combined, integrated force. This move towards a greater mission in the fight against terrorism will ensure that the largest bases, like that of the APG, are kept and improved to house a much larger workforce as military personnel begin relocating to Maryland.
